The category is shifting from “protection only” to “protection + personalization” — which is exactly where colored PPF sits.

Asia-Pacific alone accounted for roughly 46% of the global market in 2025.

Why this matters for colored PPF distributors

1Higher margin

Protection + personalization carries higher margin and less price competition than commodity vinyl wraps.

2Informed buyers

End customers increasingly research film technology before buying — distributors who can explain performance win more than those competing on price alone.

3Fastest channels

OEM / dealer partnerships and detailing studios are the fastest-growing sales channel for colored PPF.

What is colored PPF? Color change and paint protection in one film

Colored PPF — also called color PPF, coloured PPF, color paint protection film or color change PPF — is a paint protection film that carries the color itself. Instead of choosing between a clear PPF that only protects and a vinyl wrap that only changes the color, one colored PPF wrap does both jobs.

SolarPro takes it a step further: the pigment is co-extruded inside the TPU, not coated on top — so the color and the protection can’t separate.

Why co-extruded TPU colored PPF doesn't delaminate

Traditional colored wraps rely on surface coatings or laminated layers — prone to fading, delamination, and inconsistent gloss. SolarPro’s TPU Colored PPF is different: through proprietary multi-layer co-extrusion technology, pigment and TPU substrate are fused at the molecular level into one seamless film, delivering true PPF-grade protection with zero compromise on color performance.

ProblemThe problem with traditional color wraps

Most color-change films are made by surface-printed / coated PVC, or laminated TPU (a clear layer glued onto a separately colored base). Both share the same weakness — an adhesive interface between color and protection. Under UV exposure and mechanical flexing, that interface is where films fail: delamination, edge lifting, bubbling, fading.

SolutionWhat co-extrusion actually changes

Multi-layer co-extrusion melts and forms multiple polymer layers — including pigment — through the same die, fusing while molten. There is no adhesive seam between color and substrate; it’s one continuous polymer structure.

True Color Fusion

Pigment co-extruded into the TPU core, eliminating “floating color” and premature fading.

PPF-Grade Protection

Impact resistance, tear resistance, and self-healing in the same layer that carries the color.

5–8 Year Service Life

Far exceeding the 2–3 year lifespan typical of PVC-based wraps.

Color PPF film structure: pigment inside the TPU

Every SolarPro color PPF film is made by multi-layer co-extrusion, so the color layer and the TPU are one body — five layers, each with one job. Scroll to separate them, or tap any layer to lift it out of the stack.

Why layer order matters

Lower-cost films sometimes thin the topcoat or substitute a standard clear coat for a UV-stabilized one — the symptom shows up 12–18 months later as chalking or color drift, by which point the distributor is fielding the complaint, not the factory.

Six things that make this colored PPF perform

Laminated filmGlue interface
Co-extruded filmOne body

Illustrative cross-sections, not to scale.

MODULE 01

Multi-Layer Co-Extrusion

Seamless molding integrates nano-pigments directly into the TPU structure with no bonding layer — eliminating delamination risk and delivering breakthrough toughness.

  • No glue line between color and substrate
  • No floating color, no interlayer peeling
  • Paint-like finish that stretches over complex curves
Industry note

Co-extrusion equipment represents a significantly higher manufacturing barrier than lamination — relatively few PPF factories globally have moved into true co-extruded color film production.

Service life compared

Striped segment = range of expected service life.

MODULE 02

4th-Generation Polycaprolactone TPU

An ultra-flexible TPU PPF substrate that outperforms PVC: superior elasticity for complex curves, stronger tear and impact resistance, and a 5–8 year lifespan vs. 2–3 years for PVC.

  • Conforms to body lines, hood grooves and fender curves
  • Resists road debris and scratches
  • Stable appearance through prolonged outdoor exposure
Industry note

Ether-based TPU is cheaper but more prone to yellowing under UV; polycaprolactone-based TPU trades higher material cost for better long-term clarity.

MODULE 03

Superior Color Performance

Nano pigments fused deep within the TPU base produce vivid, saturated tones with smooth gradients and long-term color stability.

  • Vibrant, saturated colors without floating color
  • Seamless gradient, matte and metallic shimmer transitions
  • Resists fading under acidic or alkaline contaminants
Industry note

“Floating color” is a recognized wrap-industry defect — it happens when pigment sits in a surface coating rather than the base polymer.

MODULE 04

Controllable Gloss, from Matte to Mirror

Molecular-level control enables >95% reflectance mirror gloss, <30% diffuse matte PPF, and precisely tuned satin PPF finishes — with uniform gloss across curved panels.

  • Even film thickness on curves via triple elongation
  • Consistent gloss from hood to door edges
  • No “loss of gloss” from coating aging
Industry note

Gloss is typically measured with a 60° gloss meter (ASTM D523 reference standard) — useful spec-sheet language for buyers who test incoming shipments.

Scratched

Illustration only. Recovery depends on scratch depth, temperature and time.

MODULE 05

Nano Self-Healing Topcoat

Minor scratches self-repair under sunlight or mild heat; the coating also blocks UV, acid rain, and bird droppings.

  • Thermal self-healing of micro-scratches
  • Reduces oxidation-related fading and yellowing
  • Less dirt adhesion, easier cleaning
Industry note

Self-healing is now a baseline expectation in premium PPF — the differentiator is combining it with a co-extruded color layer, not just clear film.

What decides how long a colored PPF wrap lasts

01

TPU chemistry

Ether-based TPU yellows faster under UV; polycaprolactone-based TPU keeps long-term clarity.

02

Where the color sits

Color in a surface coat can fade or float; color co-extruded inside the TPU can’t separate.

03

Topcoat quality

A thinned or non-UV-stabilized topcoat shows up 12–18 months later as chalking or color drift.

04

Adhesive quality

The most common source of warranty claims — it decides edge lifting and residue on removal.

Colored PPF FAQ

The questions installers and distributors ask us most. Can’t find your answer? Send us a question.

Yes. Colored PPF is paint protection film with the color built into the TPU. SolarPro co-extrudes the pigment inside the film rather than printing or laminating it on top, so the color cannot peel away from the protective layer.

SolarPro co-extruded TPU colored PPF has a 5–8 year service life, compared with 2–3 years for PVC-based color wraps. Real-world life depends on TPU chemistry, topcoat and adhesive quality, and installation.

Yes, per roll and per install. TPU costs more than PVC and takes longer to fit. But colored PPF lasts roughly twice as long and protects the paint from chips and scratches, so the cost per year of ownership is close to, or lower than, repeated vinyl wraps.

The installed price is set by the installer and depends on vehicle size, the color and finish chosen, and labor in your market. For distributors and installers, our wholesale roll price depends on series, finish and volume — send your target colors and quantities and we will reply with a factory-direct quote.

Look at how the color is made rather than the brand name: co-extruded color (not a printed or laminated layer), polycaprolactone-based TPU, a UV-stable self-healing topcoat, a clean-release adhesive, and an IATF 16949 certified factory. SolarPro colored PPF is built to that checklist, and you can verify it with samples before ordering.

Yes. Minor scratches and swirl marks on SolarPro color PPF recover under sunlight or mild heat, as the nano topcoat’s molecules flow and realign to restore a smooth surface.

Yes — mirror gloss (over 95% reflectance), satin, and matte (under 30% diffuse reflectance), across four series: Metal, Diamond, Crystal and Special (laser chrome and 5D carbon fiber textures).

A vinyl wrap is PVC: it changes the color but is not PPF-grade protection and typically lasts 2–3 years. Colored PPF is built on TPU: it changes the color and protects against road debris and scratches, conforms better to complex body contours, self-heals minor scratches and lasts 5–8 years.

The acrylic PSA is chemically stable and won’t corrode factory paint. It is designed to minimize adhesive residue risk when the film is removed after long-term use.

Yes. Private label options include custom color development, custom roll specs, private-label packaging and co-branded color cards.

Yes. Request the color PPF swatch book through the inquiry form — add colors from the color chart to your sample list and we will include film samples of those colors with the swatch book.
